Services / ETL Testing & Report QA

Pipelines you can
sign off on.

End-to-end ETL pipeline validation and BI Report QA — source-to-target reconciliation, transformation logic, regression suites, and data-quality gates. We close engagements with 95%+ test coverage against documented acceptance criteria.

ETL testing is the validation that data moves correctly from source systems to its target — confirming completeness, transformation logic, referential integrity, and quality before anyone trusts a report. Thinklens delivers offshore ETL testing and BI report QA in four layers: source-to-target reconciliation (row counts, aggregates, and field-level samples across SAP, Workday, files, and APIs); transformation-logic unit tests with versioned expected/actual fixtures; referential-integrity and regression suites run on every release; and data-quality gates that reject bad data at ingest. For the BI layer, the team validates DAX measures, row-level security, calculated fields, drill-through paths, and visual accuracy across Power BI, Tableau, and TIBCO Spotfire. Engagements close at 95%+ test coverage against documented acceptance criteria, with a test-evidence trail your end client's auditors can follow. Delivered under your MSA on Time & Materials or Fixed-Scope terms.

Four layers,
no blind spots.

Every engagement runs through a documented test plan covering data, logic, integrity, and quality — built against the end client's acceptance criteria before code lands.

Layer 01

Source-to-Target Reconciliation

Row counts, aggregate totals, and field-level sample comparisons between source systems (SAP, Workday, flat files, APIs) and the loaded target — automated where possible, sampled for audit.

Layer 02

Transformation Logic

Unit tests for every transformation rule — joins, lookups, derivations, business rules — with expected/actual fixtures versioned alongside the pipeline code so regressions are caught at PR review, not in production.

Layer 03

Referential Integrity & Regression

Foreign-key coverage, orphan-record detection, and a regression suite that runs against every release. Critical paths re-run on a schedule against production data with masked PII.

Layer 04

Data-Quality Gates

Null thresholds, value-domain checks, freshness SLAs, and anomaly detection wired as gates in the pipeline — bad data is rejected at ingest, not surfaced six weeks later in a board report.

Reports that survive
the boardroom smell test.

When the ETL is clean, the BI layer still needs its own QA. We validate calculations, security models, drill-through paths, and visual accuracy across the three platforms most enterprise clients run.

Power BI

Measure, RLS, and visual QA

DAX measure validation against known totals, row-level-security testing across personas, and visual-accuracy checks (axes, drill-through, cross-filter behavior) for every published report.

Tableau

Calculated-field and permission QA

Calculated-field expression review, dashboard performance profiling (Tableau Performance Recorder), permissions matrix testing, and extract-refresh validation.

TIBCO Spotfire

Information-link and IronPython QA

Information-link parameterization tests, IronPython script review, marking-and-filtering propagation, and Spotfire Library deployment validation.

We sign off when the test matrix is green, not when the calendar says so. If the data tells us a release isn't ready, we say so — that's the value of using a partner whose name isn't on the SOW.

Questions,
answered.

What does your ETL testing process cover?

End-to-end pipeline validation — source-to-target reconciliation, transformation-logic unit tests, referential-integrity and regression suites, and data-quality gates — typically reaching 95%+ test coverage against documented acceptance criteria before sign-off.

Which BI tools do you run Report QA against?

Power BI, Tableau, and TIBCO Spotfire. We validate DAX and calculated-field measures, row-level security, drill-through paths, and visual accuracy against known totals.

How do you engage and price ETL testing?

As a silent sub-contractor under your MSA, on Time & Materials or Fixed-Scope terms. Pre-vetted testers can typically start within 1–2 weeks of a signed SOW.
